As we head into Thanksgiving next week, I wish you all a much-deserved break, hopefully filled with good food and time spent with family or friends. I know I’m particularly thankful this year to be serving as your PHCC president, representing passionate people who truly care about this industry.

Sometimes it takes a village – or at least a strong contingent of passionate contractors – to create change. By voicing our concerns in person about unfair utility competition, we hopefully put a face – and a story – with this important issue.

The week before Memorial Day weekend, PHCC members descended upon Washington, D.C. to plead their case regarding several very important industry issues during the 2018 Legislative Conference.

You get them, too … those countless requests to advertise your company in the local high school football program or yearbook. Thanks to a brilliant idea from my son, we turned those requests into opportunities to promote “earn while you learn” training for our industry (and plug our company at the same time!).

The PHCC—National Board of Directors recently met in Florida to discuss challenges, progress and issues of our association. Many of you may not know that the Board meets face-to-face three times per year—in the winter at various locations; during the spring at the Legislative Conference; and in the fall during CONNECT.

“Tis the season of giving,” as they say … the season of giving to our families, our friends and our loved ones. But now as we welcome the new year, I would like to say that this is the season to “give back.” As contractors, we devote much of our time and energy into making our businesses thrive and grow. Our employees are producing; things are humming along; there is money in the bank. Now what?
