2018 Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) – Code Changes

Keep up-to-date on the Uniform Plumbing Code by learning about the changes from the 2015 to the 2018 edition. The notable changes to the code will be discussed in-depth and in a way that makes the discussion meaningful to attendees. Each notable change will be shown so attendees can see exactly how the code changed. Further discussed will be why the code changed and what impact it will have on the code enforcement and installer communities. Brief discussions of the UMC and status of the National Standard Plumbing Code (NSPC) will also be included.

Doug Kirk is IAPMO’s director of Environmental Education and Technical Services supervisor and is based in IAPMO’s world headquarters in Ontario, California. Doug has been in the plumbing industry for more than 50 years and has been a plumbing educator for more than 35 years, with more than 8,500 classroom hours. He has also been appointed to serve on numerous plumbing committees including as president of Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors of San Diego, Calif., in 1983 and 1987, San Diego Plumbing Training Committee chairman from 1988 to 2007, and Plumbing Code Committee chair for Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors of California from 1995 to 2007. He has also been a regular monthly columnist for Reeves Journal since 2010.
