The Foundation’s online apprentice training provides PHCC chapters with a Department of Labor approved curriculum, online testing and tracking of student progress plus resources for classroom instructors. And some chapters are also finding that the program is a key to increasing their membership.
“We have tripled the number of non-union contractor members in our chapter over the last two years,” reports Ray Hefner, EVP of the Plumbing Industry Council/PHCC of Missouri. “Most of those contractors came on to get their apprentices enrolled – you have to be a member to get your people trained.”
Hefner pointed out that classes at a nearby technical college run close to $15,000 per year. “Our members can get their apprentices through the Foundation’s entire four-year program for less than a third of that. It’s no competition.”
“We also have Foundation speaker Kirk Alter coming here this week to present sessions for our business owners. Having access to great speakers is another way we benefit from the Foundation’s offerings,” added Hefner.
“Every association needs an essential program that is easy for members to wrap their arms around and say ‘I need this.‘ For us, the Foundation’s training is helping drive contractors to join and to stay. It has been a tremendous help.”
PHCC state chapters around the country have been adding the online apprentice training to their list of offerings. If your state chapter is interested in learning more, Foundation staff will be available during CONNECT 2019 in Indianapolis to answer questions and have individual meetings with chapter executives about establishing a program.
