Back to School Already?
Hard to believe it, but most schools will be back in session in just a few weeks. For apprentices, school administrators and instructors, we are here to help.
What’s Better Than 43 Scholarship Winners? How About 50!
Thanks to some additional sponsorship dollars, our Scholarship Committee was able to go beyond our planned 43 scholarships and select additional winners for this year’s awards. Final tally – fifty apprentices, trade school and college students will receive up to $113,000 in scholarships toward their tuition this month. Once confirmed, the full list of winners will be published later this month on the Foundation website.
Hot Off the Presses – New Edition of Plumbing 401 Textbook Available
Time to hit the books – the Foundation has a full set of Dept. of Labor recognized HVAC and Plumbing textbooks designed for use in 4-year apprentice training programs. A brand new, updated edition of the 4th year plumbing textbook is now available for sale through our textbook partner Cengage Learning.
Need to get an apprentice trained? Many local PHCC chapters run apprentice schools. Where a program is not available, some companies run their own in-house programs using our books and curriculum. The textbooks can also be used in online apprentice training offered through our PHCC Academy. Follow the links below for more details.
Foundation Resources for Instructors
For apprentice program instructors using the Foundation’s textbook series, here is a reminder that you don’t have to start from scratch when creating lessons for the classroom. We have tools to help you!
Textbook Resources – For each year’s program on the plumbing and HVAC sides, there is a set of instructor resources available through Cengage Learning. The resources include a digital test bank of exam questions, PowerPoint® slides that highlight key concepts from the corresponding text, an image library, and an instructor’s manual.
Instructor Bootcamp – An education professional, Dr. Kitty Manley helped us create a series of webinars designed to fill an apprentice instructor’s education toolbox. She covers the basics of planning and designing course content and presentations, including assessments and other critical classroom management topics, to help maximize your effectiveness in the classroom.
Student Soft Skills – Need help teaching your students to understand the non-technical skills that will make them successful as a plumbing or HVAC technician? We have two 30-minute webinar presentations from Steve Coscia of Coscia Communications that guide students through the critical soft skills everyone should know.
