Mid-Year Report on
Final Furnace, Air Conditioner, Heat Pump Rule
Success of PHCC’s Legislative Conference Continues!
PHCC continues to build and maintain relationships on Capitol Hill that enhance our credibility as the “go-to” organization for industry information. The most recent example is the continuing success of the PHCC Legislative Conference and our ongoing engagement with Capitol Hill. As we approach the second half of 2015, we’d like to share how this emphasis on relationship-building is paying off for PHCC members—and our industry.
On April 23, 2015, PHCC held its annual Legislative Conference with a specific target: educate Members of Congress and staff on PHCC’s concerns regarding the Final Furnace, Air Conditioner, Heat Pump Rule. More than 110 committed PHCC members went to Capitol Hill with a unified voice and met with their respective Member(s) of Congress.
Since then, PHCC—National Association has been actively representing the contractors’ point of view to legislators and regulators on this important issue. We’ve been a part of several important meetings and research-gathering initiatives that focused on making sure that the regulations were realistic and not burdensome and costly to contractors and consumers.
There is evidence that our outreach is making an impact! For example, in June, 121 members of the U.S. House of Representatives sent a letter to the U.S. Dept. of Energy secretary urging the agency to reconsider its recently proposed 92 percent AFUE residential furnace standard. Twenty-eight legislators who signed the letter were contacted by PHCC members during the Legislative Conference. The fact that so many legislators signed the letter is a positive indication that PHCC and the industry have done a good job reaching their representatives and communicating the problems associated with the proposed rule.
At the same time, PHCC’s credibility has elevated to a point where we’re being invited to submit comments on this and other issues to members of Congress and the regulatory agencies—more evidence that our messages are being heard. Congratulations to PHCC members for your involvement in achieving these results!
