Apprentices: “Earn While You Learn”
PHCC of Georgia Launches Plumbing Apprentice Program, eLearning
PHCC of Georgia is now offering a plumbing course for apprentices through its Academy Apprenticeship Program that combines classroom training courses with on-the-job training (students are employed by contractor sponsors). Additionally, PHCC of Georgia Academy has received approval to run an eLearning plumbing course, allowing students who work and live outside the classroom areas to finish their schooling and work toward becoming licensed contractors.
Let PHCC of Tennessee’s Ride & Decide program begin.
There’s no time like summer break for high school students to give a career in the p-h-c profession a try. To address the workforce shortage, PHCC of Tennessee launched its “Ride and Decide” program this month, pairing students with industry contractors to allow them to experience the trade while assisting in paid work functions during the summer. The first phase of the program started on June 1 and already has placed 42 students with employers in the Knox County area. This initiative already is realizing huge success! Learn more here.

Waters of the U.S. Rule Moves to Senate
Last week, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee approved a bill that would halt the Waters of the U.S. rule as it stands now. The bill, similar to what was passed by the House on May 12, would require EPA and the Corps of Engineers to go back to the drawing board and consult with state and local governments, as well as complete economic impact and small business impact analyses. PHCC joins other industry groups in continuing to voice opposition.
Tax Reform Update
How PHCC and the Business Community View the Process of Revising U.S. Tax Code
The House and Senate will be releasing a comprehensive tax reform package by the end of this month. House and Senate members have been working on multiple components of the IRS Tax Code to restructure our nation’s tax system. Many are anxious to review the proposal for this complicated issue. As an active member of the Small Business Legislative Council (SBLC), PHCC gains valuable insight on the information coming out of tax reform discussions on Capitol Hill.
