CCA Learns About “Change Leadership”Although leadership traits are important, members of the Construction Contractors’ Alliance learned at their last meeting that the environment also is a factor in leading effectively, especially during periods of change. “If we want to change our company, we need to change ourselves and our personnel,” keynote speaker Gary Heil told the group. After interviewing leaders from around the world, Heil said he has concluded that, “Sometimes we overestimate leadership characteristics and underestimate the impact of the environment. The environment we create can turn some negatives into something incredibly more positive.” Heil provided several tips on how to become a leader that will attract motivated employees and inspire maximum contributions from employees. A tour and “Contractor Spotlight” presentation on C.J. Erickson Plumbing Co., Alsip, Ill., also was featured at the meeting, as was a presentation by the Fulton Group, an integrated business service group. Many “hot topic” discussions also occurred. CCA is an enhanced service group of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors—National Association. It serves larger p-h-c construction contractors specializing in residential, industrial, commercial and institutional construction.
