Reminder on AC Regulations, Deadline in the South
June 21, 2016
The sell-through period for Central Air Conditioners (CAC) installed in the Southeast and Southwest regions of the United States comes to an end on July 1, 2016. As of that date, equipment manufactured prior to Jan. 1, 2015, that is rated less than SEER 14 no longer can be installed in those regions.
The Dept. of Energy (DOE) has provided additional clarification that equipment installed in those regions may not have any listed combinations less than the required minimum SEER or EER levels listed in the standard. Also, contractors must retain records for 48 months on equipment installed in the Southeast and Southwest; those records must include the make, model, serial number, date and location of installation, and the party from which the unit was purchased. These records are not required for equipment installed in the Northern states.
