Help for Consumers with Vermiculite Insulation
July 28, 2015
Vermiculite is a naturally occurring mineral that for years has been used for insulation in attic and walls. While vermiculite is an excellent insulator, some of this product has been shown to contain asbestos. This material should not be disturbed; any handling of this type of material should be done by trained professionals, click here for EPA information. There is now a trust in place to help consumers with the costs associated with removal of Zonolite brand products.
The trust may provide a reimbursement contribution of 55 percent of the abatement cost for eligible claimants up to a ceiling of 55 percent of a $7,500 removal bill (or $4,125). For example, if you spent $7,500 removing and replacing the insulation, you are potentially eligible for the maximum reimbursement of $4,125.
